Being flexible to yourself and others can safeguard versus tension and the toll it handles mental health, according to a brand-new study in the Journal of Health Psychology.
Researchers looked at the results of lifetime tension on an individuals mental health, and how more forgiving people fared compared with people who werent so forgiving. To do this, they asked 148 young adultsyoung people to fill out questionnaires that assessed their levels of lifetime tension, their propensity to forgive and their mental and physical health.
Not a surprise, people with higher direct exposure to stress over their lifetimes had even worse mental and physical health. However the scientists also found that if people were highly forgiving of both themselves and others, that characteristic alone virtually eliminated the connection in between stress and mental disease.
